SIBU, 11 June -- Dayak youths have been encouraged to join the army and carry on the community’s legacy of heroic service and loyalty to the country.
Malaysian Army chief General Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor said the Dayak community being the second largest racial group to serve in Malaysian Army, were feared by the enemy for their bravery and intrepidity.
“This is the spirit needed in the Malaysian Army. I want to express my appreciation to the Dayak community for their struggle and sacrifice,” he said.
His speech text was read out by Eastern Territory commander, Lieutenant General Datuk Mohd Zaki Mokhtar at the close of the army’s Gawai celebration, ‘Ngiling Bidai’, last night.
The event held at the 3rd Royal Ranger Regiment base at Oya Camp here, was organised by the 9th Infantry Brigade. Also present were First Infantry Division commander Major General Datuk Stephen Mundaw and Nangka assemblyman Dr Anuar Rapae’e. (BERNAMA)
